Main antagonist in "The Lord of the Rings"

Sauron, the eponymous Lord of the Rings, was the greatest fallen Maia, maker of the One Ring, renowned disciple of Aulë, and chief agent of Morgoth in the Elder Days. After Morgoth's ousting by the Valar, Sauron became the second Dark Lord and sought to conquer Middle-earth as his former master had. He lives in his fortress of Barad-Dûr in Mordor, with his army of orcs, Nazguls and other monsters. He is evil, cruel, ambitious, cunning, manipulative, charming.
